ClimEx Final Workshop

The aim of the ClimEx final workshop is to present the results of the ClimEx project (2022-2025, funded by Agence Nationale de la Recherche), and to discuss how extreme sea levels are changing in a warming climate.

The workshop will take place at Brest (Pôle Numérique Brest Iroise, near Ifremer), France, 24 - 25 March 2025. We plan to have an in-person meeting only. The workshop is open to the scientific community, registration is free, but mandatory.

Registration deadline: 28 February 2025 (limited number of places)

The program is available here (updated 11/02/2025).

Context

The ClimEx project aims to quantify and understand the evolution of extreme sea levels along the North Atlantic coasts on decadal to secular time scale, with emphasis on the tide and the storm surges. The extreme sea levels are impacted by any change in mean sea level, tide and storm surges. ClimEx focuses on long-term changes in tide and storm surges, which has raised little attention up to now, compared to the mean sea level.

The scientific objectives of ClimEx are:

  • to characterize how the tide and the storm surges are changing over the last century,
  • to infer the physical causes behind the observed changes, using innovative methods.

ClimEx analyses together data from different sources, such as long-term tide gauges or numerical models. In addition, nearshore field campaigns deploying low-cost pressure sensors are conducted.

The project covers a 4-year period, from 2022 to 2025.
